I love to write because it's the only way I know to think deeply; without writing there is no understanding. When I write, I write creatively, with care and enthusiasm (and don't like chatting or 'Skyping').
I've always been considered an intellectual or academically-minded, a person who delves deep into a wide variety of topics. I read voraciously but confess to leaning toward non-fiction, and have a love of history, ancient and modern. I do read some fiction, but I'm typically not impressed by modern authors and prefer the period from about 1870 to 1940.
I don't subscribe to the modern consumer mania, the never-ending pursuit of status. I live frugally, preferring pastimes that are more cerebral: literature, art, popular music. I'm reviving a long dormant interest in pencil drawing. Enjoy slow cooking, comfort food, gardening, running water, twilight, the shore.
