- My dad was on the USS Arneb in the late 50s that supplied and wintered in Antarctica. I go through these Antarctica binges where I learn what I can. In my mind's eye I see it as the closest thing as a longish space voyage. I read a lot of technical stuff due to being an IT guy. Been one so long that my 1st certification was NT 4. I would love a pen pal who winters down there. Either gender but just one for the duration. Obviously I am not going to hit on anyone but I sort of prefer a woman. Having 3 daughters really has me appreciating the 'woman' side of thing. They notice things I never would (can't speak for all guys). Long intro but I''d imagine you get 'downtime' as we called in in the Army.
